Know Your Strengths.

Everywhere you look there are products, services, infomercials out there trying to sell you  “fix what’s wrong with you.”

I grew up with companies where your strengths and weaknesses were assessed, and your weaknesses were “addressed.” It’s only now, with years of experience under my belt, that I realize that I don’t want to fix who I am.

There are things that I’m good at, and things I suck at. Just like you, and everyone else in the world. But, if I’m being honest, I don’t have the passion or time to fix my weaknesses. Instead, I want to spend more time on what I love to do, and what I’m good at.

And you should too.

Find out what you’re good at and do that. If you hate sales, then don’t do it! Without the passion, or the drive, can you ever be truly successful? I doubt it. I recently interviewed a young lady. She hated engaging new potential clients, and would deliberately produce poor results out of spite. The more her manager pushed, the worse the results were. Who’s to blame? Simple. Both of them.

If her manager had spent a few minutes with this young woman, then he would have seen that she had zero interest in sales. If this young lady had been true to herself, she would have stood up to her manager and communicated how she felt.

My advice to her, and you is simple. If you’re not doing what you love, then make a change and do it now. The sooner you do, the better and happier your life will be.

Most of my career, I’ve had managers telling me in order to get promoted I needed to “fix this weakness”, and “give me your action plan to fix your weakness so they will be fixed in the next 30 days” and wasted a lot of time trying to be something that I’m not

So my advice, know your strengths,  triple down on what you love to do and what you are good at. When you do it, it won’t feel like work, it will feel good. And you’ll be highly successful because your passion is contagious
